Mountaineer Area RoboticS, an internationally recognized high school robotics team based in Morgantown, is looking for new members to participate in the 2021-22 season.
Through participating in FIRST Robotics Competition, MARS strives to provide a purpose-driven creative outlet to its students. MARS students also work to inspire a change of culture in rural communities through outreach with For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology and STEM programs.
MARS designs, builds, wires, programs and markets 120-pound robots to compete across the country. But MARS does more than just build robots. Students interested in learning graphic design, public speaking, photography, fundraising, presentations and other non-technical skills are also encouraged to join. MARS also teaches skills that can be used outside the team’s activities, such as leadership, teamwork and how to use certain software.
MARS welcomes all students in grades 8-12 from north-central West Virginia. Anyone interested, regardless of extracurriculars or current skill level, is invited to participate. No past experience with robotics is necessary. The team is willing to teach all the skills needed to excel in FIRST.
While in-person activities were canceled due to COVID-19, MARS continued to meet weekly through web communication services and participated in a remote competition. MARS is moving back to in-person activities following the guidelines set forth by the State of West Virginia and the CDC.
Any interested parent, student, or volunteer looking for additional information about how they can participate in MARS or other youth robotics programs should visit MARSFIRST.org or contact MARS at MARS2614@gmail.com
