Edward “Eddy” Oakey Smith, 76, of Mount Morris, Pa., died unexpectedly at 8:09 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2021, at home.
He was born Saturday, April 28, 1945, in Morgantown, a son of the late James Lee Smith and Betty Jean DeWitt Smith.
Mr. Smith was a veteran, having served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting, farming, cleaning and organizing. He was a member of the James T. Maxon American Legion Post #992 in Mount Morris, Pa., and the Mount Morris Sportsman Club. He was retired from the Consol Coal Mine, having worked at the Bower Portal.
His wife, Betty Lu Craig Smith, whom he married on March 28, 1990, died April 20, 2016.
Surviving is his girlfriend, Lavenia Goodwin; two daughters, Angel Rollyson, of Westerville, Ohio, and Susan Hollabaugh, of Mount Morris, Pa.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Flowers, of Morgantown, and Patty Anderson, of Tennessee; two brothers, William James Smith, of Morgantown, and Daniel Smith, of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one daughter, Kim Dawson; one grandson, J.D. Dawson, one son-in-law, Doug Rollyson; and one sister, Sharon Tennant.
Friends will be received in the Milliken and Throckmorton FH Inc. Daryl L. Throckmorton Owner/Director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, Mount Morris, Pa., from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the time of the service, Wednesday, June 23, with the Rev. William Parker officiating. Private burial will be in West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton. There will be military honors accorded by the James T. Maxon American Legion Post #992.
