CHARLESTON — For the second consecutive year, West Virginia’s annual State Junior Conservation Camp will be presented virtually.
Typically, the five-day, overnight camp for 11- to 14-year-olds is staged at Cedar Lakes in Ripley. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 in-person camps were canceled. This year’s virtual camp is scheduled for June 24-25 and will feature live, interactive presentations on topics such as West Virginia wildlife, fireflies, birds, up-cycling, mountain biking, campfire safety and much more. There will even be an appearance from Smokey Bear.
The camp is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and instructors will include staff from the WVDEP, as well as from the state divisions of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Youth who participate in at least six of the camp sessions across the two days will receive a T-shirt and completion certificate.
