3-star CB Bin-Wahad commits to West Virginia following visit

KEENAN CUMMINGS | For The Dominion Post

LOGANVILLE, Ga. – Grayson cornerback Mumu Bin-Wahad had West Virginia on his mind since first taking an official visit to Morgantown during the June 4-6 weekend.

But first he wanted to be sure, so Bin-Wahad decided to take another trip to Georgia Tech.

Upon his return home, the Rivals.com three-star prospect had all the confirmation he needed and made the decision to end his recruitment and commit to the Mountaineers.

“Nobody is more excited than me right now, I can promise you that,” he said. “The coaches were ecstatic; those are my guys. But I just can’t wait to get up there and get to work.”

Bin-Wahad was a priority prospect for WVU and bypassed other offers from Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina, Penn State, Arizona State, Michigan State and many more. The Mountaineers had been involved since early in the process, but it was his visit to campus at the beginning of June that truly turned the tides in favor of the Big 12 Conference program.

That’s because it was during that trip that Bin-Wahad was able to see first-hand many of the things he had been told about from the coaches and it all checked out.

“I loved that and it’s somewhere I can see myself,” he said. “It’s just how much people love this place. That really stood out to me. I haven’t seen it at other schools.”

Co-defensive coordinator ShaDon Brown served as the lead recruiter for Bin-Wahad and the two were in frequent contact throughout the course of the process which also helped lead to this outcome. The WVU coaching staff envisions Bin-Wahad as a versatile defensive back that could bounce around to play inside or outside cornerback and he has the skill set to do so with relative ease.

The Peach State product is set to enroll at WVU in January and is excited to close his recruitment and look forward to closing out his senior season strong and recruiting others for the Mountaineers.

Bin-Wahad is the seventh overall pledge for WVU in a class that has started to pick up serious momentum on the recruiting trail in recent weeks.

“We’ll definitely have a top class when it’s all said and done,” he said. “I’m just saying stay tuned as far as recruiting.”
