Mildred Regina Lord Downey, 93, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. She was born in Martinsburg, on Jan. 27, 1928, daughter of the late Lyle and Mary (Orr) Lord.
Prior to 2011, she lived in Morgantown, with her husband, Bill Downey, who preceded her in death in 2009. While in Morgantown, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish and an avid supporter and volunteer of Christian Help in its formation.
Mildred is survived by her children, Cindy Neely (Ed), of Chapel Hill, N.C., Bill Downey, (Janice), of Morgantown, Ken Downey, (Floann), of Morgantown, Mary Beth Gasser, (Kevin), of Scottsdale Ariz., Richard Downey, (Jodi), of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mark Downey, of Russellville, Ark..; grandchildren: Jason Neely (Kelli), of Colorado Springs, Colo., Beth Neely, (Dave), of Alexandria Va., Richard Neely, of Seattle, David Downey (Mary), of Bridgeport, Michael Downey, of Morgantown, Jennifer Downey, (Domoneke Covington), of Morgantown, Christa Barvinchak, (James), of Morgantown, Ashly Gallagher, (Corey), of Sparta, N.J., Jordan Witmer, (Josh), of Chantilly, Va., Alicia Gasser, of Dallas, Texas, Grant Gasser, of Palo Alto, Calif., Brandon Downey, of Norman, Okla., Hannah Downey, of Dallas, Bryce Beavers, of Russellville, Ark.., and Drew Downey of Russellville, Ark.; along with 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Lord and Buddy Lord, of Martinsburg; and sisters, Patty Grubb and Sherry Barrett, of Martinsburg.
Friends and family will be received at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3334B University Ave., Star City, from 4-7 p.m., Friday, June 18. The evening visitation will conclude with a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church, from 10 a.m., Saturday, June 19, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father John McDonough, as celebrant. Entombment will follow at the St. Mary Peace Garden Mausoleum.
