CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Morgantown’s No. 3 singles Kassie Regules survived the state quarterfinals, but teammates No. 1 Cat Wassick and No. 2 Amy Lu fell to tough opponents Thursday at the state tennis tournament in Charleston.
Regules’ 8-2 win over Princeton’s Mary Powell now pits her against Huntington’s Tess Weller today in the semifinals round.
After defeating South Charleston’s Emily Harper, 8-5, Wassick was shut out by Hurricane’s Lexi Smolders in quarterfinals. Lu’s loss came against Huntington’s Molly Archer, 8-2.
“Both losses were against Region IV players, by far the best region in the state, with at least three teams in the mix for the state championship,” MHS girls’ coach Ted Greenlee said.
There are still plenty of games to play for MHS, though.
Wassick and Lu are set to face Archer and Weller in the No. 1 doubles quarterfinals match; Regules and Sam Carver will face Nicole Cochran and Peyton Barker (Greenbrier East) in the No. 2 doubles quarterfinals; and Carver will take on Jana Zatar (GW) in the No. 4 singles quarterfinals.
