Ruby Irene (Loraw) Armstrong, 104, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Preston Memorial Hospital. She was just six weeks shy of her 105th birthday.
Ruby was the daughter of William Allen and Belva Catherine Loraw. She was born July 16, 1916, in Bruceton Mills.
She retired from WVU Housing where she managed the housekeeping department at Arnold Hall. She was a “mom” to many young students. Prior to that, Ruby ran the kitchen at Fredlock’s Pharmacy lunch counter and was well known for her delicious cooking.
Ruby was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, a longtime member of the KVFD Women’s Auxiliary and an active member of the Preston County Senior Citizens.
Ruby loved traveling the world and taking road trips throughout the country with her dear friends. Until recent years, she spent her winters as a “snowbird” in Louisiana and Mississippi.
She is survived by her two sons, William F. Armstrong and wife Janet Spiker Armstrong, of Kingwood, and Jay Nelson Armstrong and wife Pamela Roth Armstrong, of Destrehan, La.; grandchildren, Amy Snyder and husband Randy, of Kingwood, Susan Armstrong (wife of William “Biff” Armstrong), of Kingwood, Julie Fabregas, of Metairie, La., and Jay Armstrong Jr., of Plano, Texas; great-grandchildren, Rachel Rerek, of Arthurdale, Zane Rerek, of Chicago, Jennifer Armstrong, of Elkins, Bill Armstrong and wife Grace, of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew and Tobias Fabregas, of Metairie, La., and Ava and Noah Armstrong, of Plano, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Paul Armstrong; her sister, Elsie Orndorff; and her grandson, William “Biff” Armstrong.

Family and friends may call at Browning Funeral Home, in Kingwood, from 10 a.m.-noon, the funeral hour, Thursday, June 3, with the Rev. James Riggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
