Vernon D. “Bus” Mercer, 92, died Friday, May 28, 2021, in the Fairmont Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 27, 1928, in Fairview, a son of the late Asa Mercer and Ruby L. Tennant Mercer.
Mr. Mercer was a retired coal miner that worked at both the Grant Town mine and Blacksville No. 1. He was a United States Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of United Mine Workers of American District 31 in Fairmont.
Surviving are four daughters and their spouses, Liz Jones and her husband Ronnie, of Fairmont, Sue Price, of Wadestown, Lynne Sine, of Morgantown, and Deborah Price and her husband Wesley, of Wana; one brother, Nolan Mercer and his wife Sally, of Metz; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mercer; one daughter, Linda Louise Mercer; one grandson, Vernon Jones; two brothers, Asa Junior Mercer and Joseph Mercer; and two sisters, Jean Jones and Virginia Lou Brewer.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in the Wadestown Cemetery.
