KINGWOOD — The Kingwood Public Library is open, and if you have been vaccinated, no mask is required.
Librarian Camille Titchenell said there are several upcoming summer events of interest.
She said the library will be signing up children for its Children’s Summer Reading Program. Children who are entering kindergarten through fifth grade in the fall can participate in this special reading program
The Summer Reading Program will be from June 1-Aug. 11.
Titchenell said the program is designed to help children practice and improve reading skills while they are out of school.
She said children who participate in the program will be honored during the grand finale program series Aug. 11. Reading Records must be turned in at 2 p.m. Aug. 11 to be eligible for the children to win their grade level. The child must be present to win, and a party follows.
Titchenell said funding for the Children’s Summer Reading Program is through the Friends of the Library and Kingwood McDonald’s.
She said the library will hold its Spring Used Book Sale 9 a.m.-5 p.m. June 3-4, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 5 in the library basement.
New and used hardback books, paperbacks, children’s books, magazines and DVDs will be available for purchase.
Titchenell said the library will also be holding a Summer Basket Raffle at noon Aug. 12. Tickets are available at the Kingwood Library, and you do not have to be present to win.
Tickets are 2 for $1 or 5 for $2. All proceeds benefit the Kingwood Public Library.
She said the library offers a number of other programs most people are not aware of. Among these are DVD loans, audio book loans and large-print Amish books that are free to take out for two weeks. There is also a coupon corner for couponers, and a large collection of genealogy material available in book form and on microfilm.
