A small group of local women are in the process of organizing a craft event to take place at Mason-Dixon Historical Park early next month.
Kaitlin Webber, a Morgantown resident and cashier at Menards, is one of the individuals who has been working since December to make the idea a reality.
Webber said as of last week, the craft show has reached its limit for vendors. A total of 65 people have signed up to show their work or provide concessions to guests.
“That’s the maximum that we can have for both inside and outside,” she said.
Craft vendors at the show will display and sell bath products, wooden and hand-painted items, candles, floral arrangements, jewelry and pottery.
Organizers have also managed to secure appearances from well-known food vendors like Philly Pretzel Factory and Lakeside Ice Cream as well as food trucks Kona Ice and Next-Level Chef.
Webber and the other organizers are hopeful that the craft show will become an annual event at the park.
She said whether that happens is dependent on the outcome of the first craft show.
“I’m doing a lot of kids’ activities because I want it to be for both kids and adults rather than it being just for older people to shop,” Webber said.
She said a staff member of Mason-Dixon Historical Park told her many people have called to ask about the craft show, which Webber thinks is a good indication of what sort of outcome organizers should expect.
“I’ve been running Facebook ads and it’s already [been seen by] 20,000. So I’m thinking it’s going to be a huge turnout, but you can’t really tell because of COVID-19,” she said.
The Mason-Dixon Craft & Vendor Show is scheduled for noon-5:30 p.m. June 12. The event is free to attend.
Closely following the craft show on June 12 will be Mason-Dixon’s Park Concert Series No. 1 featuring 18 Strings, an acoustic string trio based out of Morgantown. The bluegrass concert will be held at the amphitheater in the park.
The show will start at 6 p.m. and end around 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Children under 12 will be admitted for free.
