It was a nail-biter between the No. 5 Morgantown and No. 4 Wheeling Park baseball teams on Tuesday night, but Ryan Fluharty came in clutch on the mound, getting out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the 7th to walk out with a 6-4 win.
The Patriots got the first four of the inning on base, allowing one run to score, but Fluharty got a strikeout, pop out and fielder’s choice to end it.
The Mohigans led most of the way, but Wheeling Park answered at almost every call, scoring in the same inning as MHS every time except the 1st, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Fluharty was also the hero at the plate for the Mohigans with three RBIs on two hits. Quincy Thornton, Zach Brennan and Koma Neal also drove in the runs. Fluharty and Thornton led the team with two hits each.
Reed Bailey pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, but none were earned. Fluharty finished things off in 1 1/3 innings.
MHS (16-2) will host North Marion at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
