ALBRIGHT — Friends of the Cheat, Preston County Parks and Recreation Commission and Preston Trail Towns will host Kids’ Art Day at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Friends of the Cheat Campground.
Artists led by Eddie Spaghetti Art will team up with children from the Preston County area to co-create a series of murals. These murals will be the centerpiece of PCPaRC’s new Tunnelton Trailhead Park on the West Virginia Northern Rail-Trail.
Children will paint these murals alongside the artists. At a later date, the paintings will be attached to the West Virginia Northern Rail-Trail’s historic pump house and maintenance sheds in Tunnelton, transforming the buildings into a focal point and positive community gathering space on the rail-trail.
The Tunnelton Trailhead Park is one of Preston Trail Towns’ inaugural Project Partners. FOC and Preston Trail Towns are supporting PCPaRC’s effort to develop the Tunnelton Trailhead Park on the West Virginia Northern Rail-Trail by providing assistance and support for this public art project and security measures, creating a safe and family-friendly gathering space on the rail-trail. The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History’s Rural Youth Engagement through Public Art program is also providing financial support.
Preston Trail Towns brings together communities on Preston County’s trails by helping organizations, small businesses and entrepreneurs capitalize on the recreational and tourism opportunities new rail-trails bring. Preston Trail Towns and the Partner Program are just a piece of an expansive strategy FOC is leading to intentionally develop and promote destination-worthy outdoor recreation in Preston County and beyond.
The Friends of the Cheat Campground is at 139 Beech Run Rd., Albright.
