Two out of three downtown murals commissioned by the Main Street Morgantown Design Committee are now complete.
The Eddie Spaghetti Art creation makes a colorful backdrop for the 430 Spruce Street Pocket Park, which Mills Group designed for the City of Morgantown.
Construction of the park is set to be complete by the end of the month. Mills Group — with offices in Morgantown and Wheeling — developed the master plan for the project, managed the bidding process and coordinated with the construction, according to a release from the company.
The mural, along with one on the Pleasant Street Parking Garage and another in the works, is made possible through the Organizational Arts Grant.
The Organizational Arts Grant program aims to broaden support for the arts, promote excellence in the arts and make sure arts and cultural organizations are able to provide various art programs for the community. This Community Arts Grant is made possible through a collaborative effort between Your Community Foundation and Arts Mon, with funding from the City of Morgantown, Monongalia County Commission and the Douglas H. Tanner Memorial Fund for the Art.
Main Street Morgantown received the first Organizational Arts Grant in 2018. The organization has received a total of $20,000 from the program during the past three years for projects such as Arts Walk, Trash Receptacle Wraps, Downtown Murals, and DOH Electrical Box Wraps, the paper previously reported.
