Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a body was found May 6 in a wooded area east of Fairfield Manor.
According to a press release issued by the department, this was the fifth search of the area, aided by K-9 cadaver units and volunteers, looking for Lorna Phillips.
The body found was wearing winter clothing and gloves and appeared to have been there for about 2-3 months, investigators said. The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy and identification.
Sheriff Perry Palmer said he would like to thank all the volunteers who gave their time in the searches.
The department was also assisted by Mon EMS, Monongalia County Emergency Management and Cheat Lake volunteer fire department, all of whom helped in the retrieval and transport of the body.
