Local well-known musician Will Mecum, 48, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 4, 1972, a son of Thomas Mecum, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Jane Landis, of Hershey, Pa.
Will is best known for being a founder and lead guitarist of the Morgantown band, Karma to Burn (K2B). The band is very well known in Europe and the United States. They’ve produced all original music, releasing a number of albums and singles in both the United States and Europe. He was filled with talent, but always humbled to know that other people were influenced by his work. Will drew his influences from bands of the early 1990s.
In addition to his parents, Will is survived by his sister, Kelly Mecum Nowlan and her husband Patrick, as well as one niece and one nephew. Along with his family, Will leaves behind his bandmates, as well as many friends and fans of his work from all around the world.
No public services are planned for this time.
His spirit will live on, not only through his music, but in the gift he gave to others by being an organ donor through CORE.
Smith Funeral & Cremation Care of Westover/Morgantown, is providing care and guidance to the family.
