Girl Scout Troop No. 10167 placed a new blessing box in front of Suncrest Elementary School on April 24.
The Brownie troop of eight girls, ages 7- to 8-years-old, sold 3,494 boxes of Girl Scout cookies in the spring, largely to customers in Monongalia County. As their proceeds came in, the girls decided to use some of those funds and the craftsmanship of a member’s grandfather to place the box in the Suncrest community for those in need.
Each girl helped paint the box and provide the initial stock of food. They will also get the opportunity to contribute to the box again in the coming weeks, as they shop for items to donate.
Tara Hilleary, the troop’s leader, said in an email, “We hope [it] will help them learn a little about sticking to a budget and making appropriate choices about what items to contribute.”
Those in the community can take what they need and give what they can.
