Perry Rhodes

Perry Wendel “The Judge” Rhodes, 86, of Tunnelton, died on Monday, April 26, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

Perry was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Westernport, Md., a son of the late Lester V. and Hilda Kathern (Weaver) Rhodes.

Perry was a 1953 graduate of Tunnelton High School and a lifelong member of the Howesville United Methodist Church. At the age of 21, he started his own trucking company, working 59 years until his retirement in 2014 and he was also vice president of Walnut Hill Coal Company. Perry collected cars and trains for many years and was a member of TCA. After retiring, he loved working on his farm, making hay, feeding the cows and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons and spouses, Randal and Sheila Rhodes, of Kingwood, and Robin Lynn and Robin Rhodes, of Tunnelton; one daughter, Rhonda Jo “Sue” Rhodes, of Tunnelton; three brothers and spouses, Glenn and Lynda Rhodes, of Parkersburg, Ronnie and Carla Rhodes and Dwight and Donna Rhodes, all of Mineral Wells; two sisters and spouses, Karen and Charles Zinn and Martha and Dwight Rosier, all of Tunnelton; five grandchildren and spouses, Brent Rhodes, Kristie Hartsell and Allen, Drew Rhodes, Amanda Bishoff and Kevin and Cody Rhodes and Brooke; and nine great-grandchildren, Paige and Ariana Rhodes, Maleah and Rylan Rhodes, Violet Bishoff and Clayten, Myles Hartsell and Scarlett and Carson “Eli” Rhodes.

In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years in April 1976, Violet Roslie (Bishop) Rhodes; two brothers and spouse, Carl and Sandra Rhodes and Paul Brent Rhodes; two sisters, Mary Katherine Rhodes and Anna Leanora Rhodes; and two grandchildren, Ryan Rhodes and James Wendell Rhodes.

Visitation will be at the Howesville United Methodist Church, from 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 28, until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. with Pastor Sonny McNear and Pastor Rick Bloom officiating.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Perry’s memory to the Howesville United Methodist Church, c/o Pearl Weaver, 501 Number 4 Road, Tunnelton, WV 26444.
