Gavin Jackson leads Trinity boys’ hoops to sectional championship game

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The Trinity boys’ basketball team erased a five-point halftime deficit Friday and Gavin Jackson led the way with 19 points to lead the Warriors past Berkeley Springs, 57-53, in the Class AAA Region I, Section 2 semifinal game.

Jaylon Hill added 16 points for Trinity (8-5) and teammate James Garbart scored 10.

“Gavin Jackson led us in scoring with 19 tonight, but it was freshman Jaylon Hill who was our main factor doing all the little things,” Trinity head coach Rick Hill said. “He seemed to spark us at the right time with his old-school basketball mentality. I’m proud of this team and its effort.”

Berkeley Springs was led by TyMir Ross’ 17 points and Carson Stotler scored 12.

Trinity trailed, 26-21, at the half, but came back to take a 40-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Warriors will travel to Hampshire at 6 p.m. Saturday to play in the sectional championship game.

“Our players came out very focused an determined to be successful,” Hill said. “We talk about doing the little things to be a good team such as rebounding, getting 50-50 balls and free throws and tonight we did those things.”
