The Clay-Battelle girls’ basketball team had its season come to an end Wednesday night, losing in the Class A Region I co-final to Cameron 82-50.
“Our girls were positive throughout the contest and even afterward in the locker room,” head coach David Joyce said. “We were able to play hard while respecting a very good Cameron team. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls and parents.”
It was the final game with the Cee-Bees for Autumn Stewart, Ronda Petrucci and Sydney Wilson.
Clay-Battelle jumped out to a quick 13-6 lead, but following a Cameron timeout, the Dragons pounded the ball to the post, where Ashlyn Vantassel poured in 19 of her game-high 28 points.
Cameron’s Lili Neely helped a third-quarter, 27-point explosion, as she and her teammates hit on seven 3-pointers to take a commanding lead.
The Cee-Bees (11-8) were led by Liv Ammons’ 24 points.
