KINGWOOD – Preston County Commissioners held a moment of silence in remembrance of Charley Pase.
“He (Pase) cared a lot about the county. He was a pioneer in recycling and did a lot to clean up the county,” Commission President Don Smith said.
Commissioners also made a memorial presentation of a plaque to the family of William “Biff” Armstrong.
“He really helped this county to become a stellar beacon of technology in the state,” Smith said.
Commissioners voted to set the county levy rates as follows:
The regular levy rate for Class I – 14.3¢ per 100, Class II – 28.6¢ per 100, Class III and IV – 5.72¢ per 100.
The fire levy rate for Class I – 1.18¢ per 100, Class II – 2.36¢ per l00, class III and IV – 4.72 ¢ per 100.
County Administrator Kathy Mace updated commissioners on work to be done to the county animal shelter. She said the electric would be pulled so siding can be installed within the next week. She said the septic system also needs to be addressed.
Mace said a meeting will be held this week with ambulance services and how the EMS will move forward in Preston County. She said the mutual aid agreements requested from the EMS services by the commission should be returned by mid-May.
Mace said the county COVID mask policy is still in effect in West Virginia and in county buildings.
“COVID is still among us and we want to make sure people know the mask mandate is still in force in Preston County,” Mace said. She said markers on the floor are still in place so people coming into county offices know where to stand.
