The Shack Neighborhood House welcomes Shawnda Cook as new executive director

MORGANTOWN — The Board of Directors of the Shack Neighborhood House has selected Shawnda Cook as the organization’s new executive director, effective April 19.  Cook brings over 10 years of nonprofit leadership experience to this role, having served as the executive director of Mon Valley’s Habitat for Humanity since 2011.

Cook will be responsible for developing and implementing a new strategic plan for the Shack Neighborhood House, and will lead Shack’s effort to raise funds to expand programming for the families and children that it serves in Monongalia County.

“We are excited that Shawnda is joining our Shack team,” said Jacquie Stanley, board member and chair of the Shack Neighborhood House personnel committee.  “She brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit management to her new role, and we look forward to working with her to develop and expand the services provided by the Shack.”

In her role as the executive director of Mon Valley’s Habitat for Humanity, she executed the organization’s strategic goals and executed all financial, contractual and personnel functions. Prior to her work with Habitat, she served as the Comptroller of CESD in Morgantown. Cook earned a bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State College in 1993.

The Shack Neighborhood House, in Pursglove, is a registered nonprofit that has been serving families in the western end of Monongalia County for more than 90 years.  The Shack provides school-age care, summer and aquatics programs, tutoring, and a growing food program for families and children.  The Shack works closely with its partner organization, Starting Points, and with many collaborative funders, including the United Way of Monongalia and Preston County.  To learn more about the Shack Neighborhood House, visit www.the-shack.org.
