BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. — After a slow start to Wednesday’s sectional semifinal, the the Clay-Battelle girls’ basketball team finally put it together to close out a tough win over Tyler Consolidated 39-32 to open postseason play.
“Both teams started slow but we came out hot in the third quarter and then finish the quarter strong to take a lead that they would not relinquish,” head coach David Joyce said.
While she’s thrilled to move on, junior Liv Ammons reached a major milestone with a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, scoring her 1,000th career point.
“Alivia has been averaging a little over 20 points a game this year. She needed 14 coming into the evening for her 1,000 but was unaware of that,” Joyce said. “After a slow start but against tough defense, we worked the ball inside until eventually we got our inside out game back on track. Liv has been such a positive player for the team.”
Autumn Stewart also scored in double figures for C-B with 10 points.
The Cee-Bees will travel to Doddridge County on Friday for the sectional championship.
