Ann Mary Chico, 96, died peacefully at the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. She was born Oct. 13, 1924, on a farm north of Point Marion, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Anthony “Tony” Wallace and Frances Belovec Wallace, who were immigrants from Slovenia in 1910.
The family moved to Cassville to work in the coal mines. Ann attended Cassville Junior High School and graduated from the ninth grade.
She is survived by her son, Joseph A. Chico III and his wife Tracy; granddaughter, Mylana A. Chico, all of Berlin, Md.; a special nephew, Dr. Louis J. Hlad, of Star City; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Joseph A. Chico Jr.; brother, Tony Wallace; and her sisters, Theresa Rose Hlad, Jennie Boles, Stella Stout and Nellie Hlad.
This special daughter of the Great Depression was part of America’s Generation, the last of a special breed.
The family has chosen to hold a private Mass of Christian Burial at the Saint Mary Catholic Church.
She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Joseph at the East Oak Grove Cemetery.
