West Virginia men’s hoops adds grad transfer Dimon Carrigan

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — West Virginia’s front line next season just got a little bit bigger.

The Mountaineers received a commitment Monday from 6-foot-9, 215-pound forward Dimon Carrigan, a graduate transfer who has played at Florida International University the last two seasons.

A native of Boston, Carrigan averaged 6.8 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Panthers last season.

In his two seasons there, he grabbed 254 rebounds over 54 games, including 21 starts.

Carrigan will have one season of eligibility remaining.

His college career began at the junior-college level, first at Bunker Hill C.C., where he averaged 19.6 points, 17.9 rebounds and 7.3 blocked shots in 14 games for the Bulldogs.

As a sophomore, Carrigan played at Odessa (Tex) C.C., where he averaged 4.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

He recorded two double-doubles last season at FIU, with his best game (15 points, 11 rebounds) coming against the University of Texas San Antonio.

Carrigan could join a WVU frontline that already includes returning senior Gabe Osabuohien, as well as highly-recruited freshman Isaiah Cottrell.

WVU power forward Derek Culver was a first-team all-Big 12 player, but he has yet to announce his plans for the 2021-22 season.

The Mountaineers could also have freshmen forwards Seny Ndiaye and Taj Thweatt returning next season.
