Mr. Raymond Harrison Baker, 76, a former resident of Belington, and more recently of Weston, departed this life early Saturday morning April 3, 2021, in the St. Joseph Hospital at Buckhannon. He had been declining in health, but death was unexpected.
He was born July 17, 1944, in Morgantown, the son of the late James D. and Freeda Forest Varner Baker. On July 24, 1992, he was united in marriage to the former Belinda Proudfoot, who preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2018.
He is survived by three daughters, Moriah Conley and husband Jared, of Weston, Sarah Vanscoyoc and husband Samuel, of Buckhannon, and Michele Baker Kuhn and husband Jeff, of Washington, D.C.; one son, Michael Baker and wife Elsa, of Edgewater, Md.; mother-in-law, Patricia A. Proudfoot, of Belington; his former wife, Sandra Prince Lawson; and cousin, Gary Squires. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren: Steph Strohminger, Elizabeth Strohminger, Sarah Strohminger, Jonathan Kuhn, Scott Baker, Audrey Baker and Elowyn Vanscoyoc.
Ray graduated from the Morgantown High School and had spent most of his working career in the grocery business. Starting with Safeway Grocery in 1970 and lastly with Shop ‘n Save. Ray’s last employment was with C&M Courier from which he retired. He formerly attended the Light of Christ Chapel in Belington and more recently the Way of Holiness in Buckhannon. Ray was an avid sports fan and loved the Mountaineers, and also was a big Washington Redskins fan. He also was an avid reader and enjoyed reading crime and mystery novels. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg St. in Belington from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday April 6 and again from 8-10 a.m., the funeral hour, Wednesday when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmies E. Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in the Talbott Cemetery near Belington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society (WV) P.O.
