MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — For the third time since WVU’s season ended March 21 in the second round of the NCAA tournament, a Mountaineers guard is testing the NBA waters.
On Friday, sophomore guard Deuce McBride joined Sean McNeil and Taz Sherman bu entering his name in the 2021 NBA Draft with the opportunity to return for his junior year at WVU.
“First off, I would like to thank God because without Him, none of this would be possible. From the first time I picked up a basketball, my dream has been to one day be in a position to play in the NBA. After conversations with my family and WVU coaching staff, I have decided I will be declaring for 2021 NBA Draft. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point. I’m excited to go through this process,” McBride posted to his Instagram.
McBride averaged 15.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists this season, taking a big leap forward from his freshman year as a go-to scorer for the Mountaineers. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native was named a second team All-Big 12 performer, and shot 41% from beyond the arc.
According to ESPN, McBride is the No. 35 prospect in their NBA draft rankings.
