MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — For the second time this week, a WVU player entered his name in the NBA draft.
Taz Sherman joins Sean McNeil, as both will have a chance to be evaluated by pro scouts with the opportunity to return to WVU if neither hire an agent.
“My two years spent here at West Virginia University started a whole new chapter in my life. Where I come from, a lot of people don’t make it to this level. Hopefully, kids would see this and be inspired by how far I came,” Sherman tweeted.
“I want to thank [Bob Huggins] for giving me an opportunity to play for WVU. I thank coach (Larry) Harrison for taking time out to recruit me. I want to thank the three Fs — family, friends and fans. Without them, none of this would be possible. Lastly, I want to thank my Lord and Savior for keeping me positive through all the trials and tribulations over the last couple years.
“With that being said, I will be entering the 2021-2022 draft with the option of returning for another year of college basketball. Respect my decision.”
Sherman, a native of Missouri City, Texas, finished his senior season averaging 13.4 points per game, third on the team, mainly as the sixth man and first off the bench. Along with Gabe Osabuohien, Sherman was given the opportunity to come back due to an NCAA ruling where this academic year did not count toward eligibility.
In two years, Sherman appeared in 59 games with the Mountaineers.
