PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — The Morgantown boys’ basketball team continued a brutal stretch, playing its 11th game in 23 games — four games this week — but was able to crush conference rival Parkersburg South 62-44 on Sunday.
“I am proud of our guys for gutting out a tough game,” head coach Dave Tallman said. “That was a good win for us in a tough environment where their students came to create a great atmosphere. We have some tired legs for sure, but I thought Stevie Sutherland did a great job with this scout and we took them out of what they wanted to do.”
The Mohigans (9-1) were led by Alec Poland, who scored 22 points, while Xavier Pryor and Brooks Gage each added 11. Cyrus Traugh (15) and Jake Hogsett (10) scored in double figures for South.
MHS will host John Marshall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

After a 10-day layoff due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Warriors (4-2) got back on track with a hard-fought win against the Yellow Jackets.
“We had some mental mistakes due to the layoff, but overall, I am pleased with our performance and our intensity during the game given the situation.” head coach Rick Hill said. “We had a bit more balanced scoring with three players in double figures and getting some quality minutes from our bench players, which is key to our success as a team.”
Gavin Jackson (18), James Garbart (15) and James Bourne (12) were the double-digit scorers for Trinity.
The Warriors will play at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Notre Dame.
