Gene Gallagher

Gene Patrick “Pat” Gallagher, 87, of Cheat Lake and formerly, of Granville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at his residence with his family at his side.

He was born March 24, 1934, a son of the late Clyde L. and Eva Gladys Maxwell Gallagher.

Pat was a graduate of St. Francis High School, class of 1951. He started working at Mathison Company and then entered the U.S. Army Reserves. He married Rose Mollohan in 1952 and enjoyed 65 years with her until her passing on Oct. 18, 2017.

Pat joined the Morgantown Police Force in 1957 and became a police lieutenant in 1963. He began to work at the Robert F. Kennedy Youth Center (now FCI Morgantown) in 1968, first as a corrections officer and then as a counselor. He transferred to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Ga. as a firearms instructor from 1985 until his retirement in 1989 when he moved back to Granville.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, firearms, gardening and traveling. Pat served on Granville City Council and the Granville Fire Commission.

Survivors include his wife, Candi Michelle Ford Gallagher; three daughters, Sherry Gallagher Jaffre and husband Randy, of Granville, Coleen Gallagher, of Cheat Lake, and Lisa Gallagher Burns and her husband Allen, of Morgantown; his bonus children, Samantha Nard and husband Kenneth, of Cheat Lake, Jon Baxter and wife Kari, of Cheat Lake, and Josh Baxter and his wife Juana, of Gibbon Glade, Pa.; grandchildren, Jodie Kroger and husband Thomas, of Morgantown, Kelly McFadden, of Washington, D.C., Tiffany Shane and her fiancé Rachel Thompson, of Lewisburg, Pa., Randen McDonald and wife Jamie, of Bridgeport, Derek Allen Burns and his wife Melissa, of Morgantown, and Emma Burns, Hanna Burns and Lea Burns, all of Morgantown; great-grandchildren, Josh Weimer, of Winchester, Va., Camryn and Carson Kroger, of Morgantown, and Bailey and Connor McFadden, of Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren, Kelsie McDonald, of Cheat Lake, and Joseph McDonald and Bailey McDonald, both of Bridgeport; a great-great-grandson, Michael Weimer of Winchester, Va.; a great-great-granddaughter Emma Weimer, of Winchester, Va.; his bonus grandchildren, Aaron Nard, of Morgantown, Sarah Raines and her husband Ryan of Franklin, Christian Nard and his fiancé Lisa Mays, of Cheat Lake, Natalie Nard, of Cheat Lake, Jaidan Baxter, of Gibbon Glade, Pa., Jaxon Nard, of Cheat Lake, Eli Baxter, of Cheat Lake, and Jacob Baxter, of Gibbon Glade, Pa.; two step-great-grandchildren, Ella Nard, of Weirton, and Lucas Raines, of Franklin; and his fur baby, Maggie.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Neil Gallagher and Mickey Gallagher.

Friends may join the family to honor Pat’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30. At his request, on Wednesday morning, March 31, 2021, Pat will be escorted by the Patriot Guard to be laid to rest with his wife Rose at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, where a private graveside committal service will be held for his immediate family and invited guests.

Guests in attendance at the funeral home will be required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and limit your stay with the family to 15 minutes or less.
