MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The University High girls’ basketball team fell to Wheeling Park, 59-54, in overtime Tuesday, March 23.
Ella Simpson led the Hawks (5-5) with 14 points and Lauren Dean added 11.
After letting a halftime lead slip in the third quarter, University battled back in the fourth to even the score, but eventually fell in overtime.
“(We) played a great game against the No. 1 team in the state. Still missing two top players, played great defense the whole game,” UHS coach Dave Boggs said. “Got behind in OT and had to foul and they maede just enough foul shots to pull out the victory. Our young team continues to mature as the season goes along.”
The Hawks will play again at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Buckhannon-Upshur.
