PREP ROUNDUP: Clay-Battelle routs Wood County Christian 71-35

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va – No. 8 Clay-Battelle easily defeated Wood County Christian Thursday, overcoming the visitors, 71-35.

C-B jumped out to a big 21-3 lead after the first quarter before outscoring WC 15-9 to end the half. Wood County Christian was able to stay with the Cee-Bees (5-1) in scoring in the second half, but the home team had too big of a lead to overcome.

“Tonight was a good Sectional win against a team that we have never played before,” C-B coach Josh Kisner said. “Our boys shot well tonight and executed what they needed.”

Mojo Chisler led the Cee-Bees with 29 points, while Austin Piper added 14. WCC was led by Michael Cline with 15.

Clay-Battelle returns to action on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Tyler Consolidated.

9th grade boys’ basketball

Morgantown 9s 43, Linsly 41 : Morgantown(5-1)was led by Jacob King with 15 points while Nick Deprospero added 13 in the victory. 

Girls’ basketball

Parkersburg South 64, UHS 63

Parkersburg South fell behind University in the first three quarters, but was able to make up lost ground in a big 28-point fourth quarter to defeat the Hawks, 64-63.

UHS took 17-13 lead in the first but lost their padded lead in the second as the Patriots came within one going into the break. The Hawks (4-4) came out of halftime to outpaced PSHS 15-8, but the Patriots’ big fourth quarter proved painful. Down two points with five seconds on the board, the Hawks hit 1 of 2 from the free throw line, allowing South to rebound the shot and hold the one-point lead.

Ella Simpson lead UHS with 27 points while Ashlyn Weaver added 14 and Lauren Dean tossed in 13.

UHS returns to action at Lewis County on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Middle school basketball

Central Preston 8s 55, Northern 40: Jared Haskiell poured in 28 points, including 6 three pointers to lead Central Preston (7-0) and to become their new all-time leading scorer. Chayce Adams added 14 points for the Wildcats. Northern was led by Grant Acord with 12 points and Luke Ross with 11.

Suncrest 8s 39, South 21: Brady Savage led Suncrest (4-0) with 13, Marty Johson added 11 and Kylan Blunt dropped 10.

Suncrest 7s 23, South 45: Carson Street led Suncrest (2-3) with 7. Jayden Smalls and Sam Curtis lead South with 7 points each.
