CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Morgantown High girls’ basketball team defeated South Charleston, 52-38, on Monday.
Kaitlyn Ammons led the Mohigans (1-0) in scoring with 18 points. Sofia Wassick added 10. Morgantown also held South Charleston to shoot just 29.2% from the field.
“Great feeling to be back on the court after a 369 day break,” head coach Jason White said. “After a great start, we ended the first half with a string of turnovers that led to surrendering some easy buckets for South Charleston in transition. Our defense clamped down in the second half allowing just 15 points. Overall after our 14-day pause, I’m very happy with the way the way the girls responded. We combated some conditioning concerns with our depth. “
MHS will play again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at University.
Doddridge County 55, Clay-Battelle 41
Liv Ammons scored 24 points for the Cee-Bees, but it wasn’t enough for them to overcome an early deficit to Doddridge County.
Clay-Battelle’s slow start proved costly as Doddridge capitalized off the Cee-Bees’ offensive rebounds and poor shooting. C-B didn’t score more than 13 points in each of the four quarters.
C-B will play again at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Linsly.
