Virginia Mary Lester, 89, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2021, at Sundale Nursing Home. She was born in Thomas, on April 2, 1931, daughter of the late Henry and Anna Jeran.
Virginia is survived by her husband James, whom she married in 1952 and celebrated 68 years together; and her children, Jimmy (Janice), Joseph (Kathy), Patrick (Teddi Jo) and Christopher. She also has a surviving sister, Anna Hughes, of Parkersburg. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her two brothers, Joe and Robert Jeran. She was blessed with grandchildren, Keegan, Paige (Joey) Rubinstein, Laura (Eric) Henry, Luke, Adam, Alex, Malinda, Ashley and Jessica (Houston) Strader. She was also great-grandmother to Stella, Lilly, Olivia, Madison and Brayden.
Virginia was an active member at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, and served the church community. She also committed her time volunteering at Christian Help and Mon Health Medical Center.
Virginia graduated from Coalton High School and went on to complete her degree at West Virginia University. Later she returned to earn her masters degree in 1980 from WVU in library science. She worked at several schools in Monongalia county as school librarian. Virginia touched many lives in a positive light.
Virginia and Jim enjoyed their retirement traveling around the world. Their favorite destination was sunny California for visits with their son, Joseph. The family wants to thank Sundale for their special care given to Virginia, making her comfortable in her last days.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 14. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 15 with the Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
