James William Sims, 82 of Morgantown, went on to glory Thursday, March 11, 2021, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 3, 1938, in Morgantown, a son of the late Abner Sims and Marie Smith Sims.
James was retired from the Westside Telephone Company and was a faithful member of HOPE church. In his spare time James enjoyed working on automobiles.
James is survived by his wife, Naomi Irene Davisson Sims; one daughter, the Rev. Rebecca Marie Friend and husband Bishop Joe Ray Friend, of Westover; two sons, James Allen Sims and companion Denise Mays, of Morgantown, and Ronald Wayne Sims and wife Denise, of Morgantown; one sister, Joanne Watkins, of Springfield; one brother, Earl Sims Sr., of Westover; four granddaughters; two grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Lynette Sims; two sisters, Erma Jean Cole and Roseanne Henry; and three brothers, Abner “Junior” Sims, Carl Sims and Bobby Sims.
Friends may call at the HOPE Church, 519 Hornbeck Road, Morgantown from 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13 until the funeral service at noon with Pastor Allen Donham officiating. Burial will follow at Arnettsville cemetery. McCulla Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
