A sampling of bills introduced Wednesday, March 10

MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills and resolutions introduced Monday, March 8. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.

  • HB 3039, to exempt diapers and feminine hygiene products from sales tax. Delegates Danielle Walker and Barbara Evans Fleischauer, both D-Monongalia, co-sponsors.
  • SB 620, to repeal the West Virginia Workplace Freedom Act, known as right to work law. Sen. Mike Caputo, D-Marion, lead sponsor.
  • SB 616, to abolish the office of environmental advocate in the Department of Environmental Protection, effective July 1. Sen. Randy Smith, R-Tucker, co-sponsor.
  • SB 617, the Student Journalist Press Freedom Restoration Act, to require that the Department of Education and the Higher Education Policy Commission allow for the free expression of student journalists on campuses of middle schools, high schools, and colleges and universities.
  • SB 619, to replace the the Higher Education Policy Commission with a new Office of Post-secondary Education.
  • HB 3038, to prohibit anyone under age of 18 from entering into a marriage.
  • HR 8, to memorialize the life of Charleston Police Department Patrolman Cassie Marie Johnson, who was killed in the line of duty. The House adopted it upon introduction. The Senate also adopted its version, SR 17, introduced Tuesday.
