A sampling of bills introduced Tuesday, March 9

MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills and resolutions introduced Monday, March 8. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.

  • SB 600 and HB 2027, the governor’s bill to eliminate the state personal income tax.
  • SB 602, same as HB 2955, to remove the residency requirement for the commissioner of the Division of Highways. The commissioner is the only commissioner required to reside at the state capital. Sen. Dave Sypolt, R-Preston, lead sponsor; Sen. Charles Clements, R-Wetzel, co-sponsor.
  • SR 17, to memorialize the life of Charleston Police Department Patrolman Cassie Marie Johnson, who was killed in the line of duty. Sponsored by the full Senate.
  • HB 2996 and HJR 27, a bill to create an independent redistricting commission and a constitutional amendment to create a state redistricting commission. Delegates Barbara Evans Fleischauer and John Williams, both D-Monongalia, co-sponsors.
  • HB 3007, to create a pilot program to provide grants to workers who relocate to West Virginia as remote workers or teleworkers. Williams, co-sponsor.
  • SB 606, the Restroom Access Act, to allow access to nonpublic restrooms by individuals with certain medical conditions and under specified circumstances.
  • HB 2998, to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the categories covered by the Human Rights Act, and age, sexual orientation and gender identity to the categories covered by the Fair Housing Act.
