Sunday’s rain caused floods across the state, but Tuesday should bring dry weather.
“It was pretty minimal considering the amount of rain we got,” MECCA 911 Director Jim Smith said.
A total of 2.10 inches of rain fell on Morgantown between the storms Sunday and Monday, said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Bob Smerbeck. Most of that, 1.62 inches, fell Sunday. A similar amount, 1.68 inches, dropped into the area Oct. 29.
Other parts of the state saw more rain with Charleston getting a little over three inches, Smerbeck said.
About six home basements in Mon County flooded and fire departments were sent to help by pumping the water out, Smith said. Several roads were also flooded Sunday, including Hagan’s Road, Mason-Dixon Highway near Wana and Fairmont Road near Sugar Grove Road.
The Marilla Park bridge crossing Deckers Creek was still underwater and impassable Monday afternoon.
Preston County Sheriff Paul Pritt said his county saw flooding in the typical areas such as in Terra Alta, Clifton Mills and “of course Rowlesburg.”
“It was just too much melt and too much rain,” Pritt said.
A new storm expected to pass to the south Wednesday and another Saturday that should do the same, Smerbeck said. If both miss the area, that’s at least a week of dry weather.
It should be 22 degrees at daybreak today with a high of 40. Smerbeck said it’s going to drop down to 28 tonight and Wednesday will climb to 53.
