Peggy H. Buckley, 98, passed away on Feb. 14, after a brief illness. She was born on July 24, 1922, to Dorothy N. Hutchinson and Walter S. Hutchinson. She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Patricia Harrah, of Dry Hill Road, Beckley.
She was married to Albert W. Booth for 49 years before his death in 1989. She married the Rev. Earl Buckley, and they had 14 years together before his death.
She leaves two daughters, Juinell Booth Riivald and her husband Heikki Riivald, of Morgantown, and Nancy Booth Walker and her husband Tim Walker, of Vernon, Conn. Her beloved grandchildren are Kristiina Riivald, of Morgantown, Sara Walker and her husband Eric, of Manchester, Conn., and David J. Walker and his wife Ginger, of Stafford Va. She will be missed by three great-grandchildren, Walker LaChapelle, Taylor Walker and Cole Walker. She also leaves her cherished companion, Blossom the pug, who brought her much joy.
During World War II, she worked in a munitions factory and was one of the few remaining “Rosie the Riveters” who contributed to the war effort. She was a licensed practical nurse who cared for patients with compassion and skill. She was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church in Morgantown.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a service will be held for family only at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 S Kanawha St., Beckley at noon Monday, March 1. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, 1435 Main St. E, Oak Hill. Instead of flowers, at her request, contributions may be sent to Morgantown Youth Services Project, 160 Chancery Row, Suite 4, Morgantown, WV, 26505.
