MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills and resolutions introduced Friday, Feb. 26. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.
- HB 2771, the Economic Development Tuition Waiver, to provide in-state tuition rates for out-of-state students based on employment by a business or organization established in state under the Economic Development Act of 1985. Delegate Evan Hansen, D-Monongalia, co-sponsor.
- HB 2778, to create the Education Tax Credit for qualifying expenses of parents or guardians of children in grades K-12. Delegate Buck Jennings, R-Preston, co-sponsor.
- HB 2783, to permit a physician to grant a child a medical exemption from the required immunizations for entering a school or a state-regulated child care center. Delegates Amy Summers, R-Taylor, Jennings, Terri Sypolt, R-Preston, co-sponsors.
- HR 10, expressing the will of the House on the reopening of public schools for in-person learning by March 1, adding that “all public schools in West Virginia should take actions to reduce the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but that a student may not be sanctioned, restricted, or punished for the failure to wear a face-covering or mask.” Jennings, lead sponsor; Delegates Phil Mallow, R-Marion, Sypolt, co-sponsors.
- SB 476, to require hospitals to staff qualified health care providers trained and properly qualified by the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Commission to collect sexual assault forensic examination kits.
- HCR 14, to make the fiddle the official musical instrument of the state.
- HJR 23, to increase the Homestead Exemption from $20,000 to $40,000.
