MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills and resolutions introduced Wednesday, Feb. 17. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.
- SB 302, to prohibit pricing goods and services on the basis of gender. Sens. Bob Beach, D-Monongalia, Mike Caputo, D-Marion, co-sponsors.
- HB 2564, to require county boards of education to provide free feminine hygiene products in grades six through 12. Delegate John Williams, D-Monongalia, lead sponsor.
- HB 2570, to require the Division of Highways to develop an app and a map that permits individuals to report and keep track of potholes. Williams, sponsor.
- HB 2574, to prohibit employers from requiring employees or prospective employees to have devices implanted or incorporated into their bodies as a condition of employment. Delegate Amy Summers, R-Taylor, sponsor.
- HB 2588, the Energy Efficiency Jobs Creation Act, to provide the Public Service Commission the authority to require electric utilities to develop and implement plans for the efficient use, conservation and reduction of electricity usage. Delegate Evan Hansen, D-Monongalia, lead sponsor; Delegate Barbara Evans Fleischauer, D-Monongalia, co-sponsor.
- HB 2589, the Orphan Oil and Gas Well Prevention Act, to prevent oil and gas wells from being orphaned on surface owner’s land with no responsible driller or operator with the resources to plug the well. Hansen, lead sponsor.
- SB 306, to permit removal of animals left unattended in motor vehicles.
- SB 317, similar to SB 306, to provide protection from civil liability for certain individuals for damages to an owner’s motor vehicle, when removing a domesticated animal from the locked and/or unattended motor vehicle, under certain circumstances.
- SB 309, to create the felony offense of aggravated cruelty to animals.
- SB 307, to provide certain members of the National Guard, Reserve and armed forces with in-state tuition rates.
- SB 310, to provide for the nonpartisan elections of county prosecuting attorneys starting in 2024.
- HB 2586, to provide full-ride PROMISE scholarships to students in STEM majors.
