Dam Work to be Suspended

Newsroom@DominionPost.com

Morgantown Utility Board’s contractor, Kanawha Stone, has suspended work on the George B. Flegal Dam and Reservoir for winter shutdown.

Concrete for the $50 million project is being poured on the spillway, and workers will continue the maintenance and construction of the erosion and sedimentation controls, said MUB Director of Communications Chris Dale, via email.

He added that Kanawha Stone is roughly 60% complete versus the total contract price, with a completion date of June 2022.

The new reservoir will hold 370 million gallons of water, a 30-day supply. It stretches about 4,500 feet southeastward in the valley between Grafton Road and Kingwood Pike — along Cobun Creek Road and following the lines of Cobun Creek and Mountain Run.
