MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills and resolutions introduced Monday, Feb. 15. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted.

  • SB 295 and HB 2018, from the governor, to provide opportunity for the maximum drawdown of federal dollars for broadband expansion by increasing the amount available for loans for broadband deployment issued by the Economic Development Authority, and to ensure that Board of Treasury Investment loan money made available to the EDA are managed and spent according to appropriate fiscal and accounting standards.
  • SCR 4, recognizing June 19 as Juneteenth, commemorating the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. Sen. Mike Caputo D-Marion, co-sponsor.
  • HB 2484, to require that closure or transfer of any publicly-funded higher education institution be preapproved by the Legislature.
  • HB 2492, to increase the criminal penalty for DUI causing death when a child was present in the car when the accident occurred. Delegate Barbara Evans Fleischauer, D-Monongalia, co-sponsor.
  • HB 2506, to establish a maximum ratio of the number of employees of the Department of Education to the number of students enrolled in the state after June 30, 2021, at not greater than one employee to 2,000 students.
  • HB 2534, to allow the possession and smoking of medical marijuana by authorized persons.
  • HR 7, to condemn all calls to Defund the Police across the nation, and in states and localities. Delegate Terri Sypolt, R-Preston, co-sponsor.
