Commission: Vaccination scheduling calls showing up as spam

MORGANTOWN — It may be a ship captain trying to sell you a timeshare.

It may be a nice lady concerned about your vehicle’s extended warranty.

Or it may be the phone call that saves your life.

Members of the Monongalia County Commission on Wednesday said they’ve expressed concerns to the state regarding scheduling calls coming from Everbridge, the state’s vaccination pre-registration provider, showing up as potential spam.

Commissioner Tom Bloom said he’s had multiple people reach out to him about the issue.

“That is a problem, statewide, that we are having,” Bloom said. “The call is coming up as spam so people are missing the calls because they don’t realize it.”

The bottom line, Commission President Sean Sikora said, is that if you’ve registered to receive a vaccine, you have to pick up the phone.

“Listen, it may be an inconvenience, but until somebody gets through to you, answer the phone when it rings,” he said.

The issue is not isolated to West Virginia. Media reports in Florida, North Carolina, Texas and other states indicate similar issues.

“It’s just a glitch right now. We don’t know why it happens, but there are different phone companies. Maybe they get it resolved with Verizon, but not with AT&T, so they have to get every one of the phone companies to solve that problem,” Bloom said.
