MORGANTOWN — It appears as if a new Bruceton Farm Service store, better known as BFS, may be coming to the Sabraton area.
Morgantown City Council approved on first reading a zoning reclassification request to reclassify four parcels — roughly two acres in total — near the intersection of Earl L Core Road and Brookhaven Road from R-1 (single family residential) to B-2 (service business).
John Whitmore, serving as the city interim planning director, said the request had come from BFS.
“I believe they are seeking to purchase the properties,” Whitmore told members of council, explaining the purpose of the request is extraneous to the zoning question, which came with the recommendation of the city’s planning commission.
It also came with the recommendation of the city’s planning department, which found it to be in line with the city’s comprehensive plan.
According to the company’s website, BFS Foods has 63 convenience stores and gas stations across four states, including one at 1681 Earl L Core Road, a little over two miles from the parcels in question.
The company also owns four Southern States locations providing agricultural and garden products and 18 bulk fuel terminals across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Ohio.
In other city news, Clerk Christine Wade said the city is still in need of poll workers ahead of the April 27 city council election.
Wade said each of the city’s nine polling locations needs four workers.
Poll workers will be paid $150 for Election Day and $50 for training, which will include a new aspect this time around.
Wade said her office is collaborating with WVU’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to provide sensitivity and diversity training.
“The first part of our training will be what the poll workers need to do on the day of the election and during early voting. The second part of our training will be sensitivity training. It will cover bias and the impacts, how that can impact poll workers,” Wade said. “We’re really excited about it.”
Poll worker applications can be submitted through the city’s website at morgantownwv.gov/elections. You can also contact the clerk’s office at 304-284-7434.
Lastly, a $277,165 bid to replace the Metropolitan Theater roof was approved by council.
Ohio-based Mansuetto & Sons Roofing, was awarded the contract to replace the roughly 9,500-square-foot roof and all auxiliary components and equipment.
