FORT WORTH, Texas — The WVU women’s basketball tram continued to take care of business Saturday, winning its eighth straight with a 79-70 victory at TCU, this time on the back of senior Kysre Gondrezick.
Already the Mountaineers’ leading scorer at 21.4 points per game, Gondrezick added to her season average, finishing with a career-high 30 points against the Horned Frogs. She is the first player since Teana Muldrow in 2018 to score at least 30 points in a game.
“Kysre shot the ball well and had nine assists,” coach Mike Carey said. “Needless to say, she had a good game.”

Gondrezick wasn’t the only player to have a career day for WVU (13-2, 7-2 BIg 12) — Esmery Martinez scored 23 points and Blessing Ejiofor grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the team.
However, Gondrezick was able to take advantage of how TCU (7-8, 2-8) was playig her defensively, getting around screens and able to put the ball in the basket. She shot just over 50% from the field at 9 of 17 and was 2 of 6 from beyond the 3-point line, and also played all 40 minutes for the third-straight game.
“She’s one of the best players I’ve ever had when it comes to on-ball picks,” Carey said. “She does a good job setting that up. She moves without the ball, she got a couple back-doors, she went to the foul line … she scored mid-range, from 3 and foul shots. She scored from all three levels, and when she does that, she’s going to have a good scoring night.”
The Mountaineers also welcomed back guard Kirsten “KK’ Dean, who was out with a non-COVID illness the last few games. She finished with seven points in 25 minutes.
The Horned Frogs jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first quarter but that was their biggest lead of the game. However, WVU struggled to pull away in the second half, but TCU also couldn’t get within striking distance.
WVU returns to the Coliseum on Wednesday after a two-game trip to Texas as the Mountaineers play host to Iowa State at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
