With municipal elections approaching in Star City and Granville, some residents may find themselves interested in running for one of the positions open.
Here’s how they can do just that.
According to the town of Star City’s official website, candidate filing for the Star City municipal election began on Jan. 11 and will close on Jan. 30.
There are seven positions accepting candidates in the 2021 election. These include the positions of mayor and recorder as well as five council seats.
Those interested in being a candidate can pick up the necessary documents at the Star City Business Office in town hall, at 370 Broadway Ave., Star City, between the business hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Returned documents sent through mail must be postmarked by Jan. 30. Documents returned in person should be submitted to the Business Office by 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 29.
Star City’s municipal election is set to be held June 8.
A post on the town of Granville’s official Facebook page says Granville’s candidacy filing period also opened Jan. 11 and will close Jan. 30.
Like Star City, the town of Granville is accepting candidates for mayor, recorder and five council spots.
Granville specifies that potential candidates must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Granville, and not be under conviction of felony or other disqualification.
Granville also established filing fees in its Facebook post. There is a $15 filing fee for the Office of Mayor, $10 filing fee for the Office of Recorder, and a $5 fee for the Office of Council.
Those interested in announcing candidacy in the Granville municipal election can pick up the necessary paperwork at Granville’s municipal office, at 1245 Main St., Granville, between the business hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The filled out paperwork and filing fee must be postmarked or returned to the municipal office during regular office hours by Jan. 30.
Granville’s municipal election will also be held June 8.
