Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia Inc. is accepting scholarship applications for the 2021-22 academic year.
YCF oversees over 40 diverse scholarship funds primarily to benefit students in north-central West Virginia. Some scholarships are designated for graduating seniors of certain schools or those who live in particular counties. Others are awarded for specific fields of study such as music, veterinary practice or engineering. While the majority of YCF scholarships are for graduating high school seniors, some are available for those currently in college.
Applicants are encouraged to review the scholarship descriptions on YCF’s website, www.ycfwv.org/scholarships/ Interested students will complete a universal online application that matches them with the scholarship opportunities for which they are eligible. Each opportunity requires an essay and at least one recommendation. Many require demonstration of financial need. Applications are due March 8, and recipients will be announced in May.
“Start your application today,” said YCF President Patty Showers Ryan. “Applicants will want to spend time on the essay and secure one or two references to complete recommendations. The software allows students to save their application, so it does not need to be completed in one sitting.”
A new scholarship is available for the first time in 2021. The George E. and Joanne R. Davis Memorial Scholarship was established by Beth Ann and John Robinson in honor of Beth’s parents. This scholarship carries on George and Joanne’s love of West Virginia and their belief in the value of sports and education. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a West Virginia resident pursuing an undergraduate degree as a full-time student at West Virginia University. Priority will be given to residents of Marion and Monongalia counties. For a full description of the eligibility requirements for all YCF scholarships, visit www.ycfwv.org/scholarships/
YCF administers a variety of scholarships on behalf of many donors. For the 2020-21 academic year, YCF awarded over $250,000 in scholarships to 100 students across north-central West Virginia.
YCF’s mission is to promote philanthropy and build endowment funds to benefit the communities. Through financial resources, YCF extends many forms of assistance to qualified people, programs and projects. Primarily serving north-central West Virginia, YCF’s underlying goal is to enhance the quality of life for those the organization serves.
