Georgia Evelyn Hammack, 99, of Snake Hill Road, Morgantown passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, in her home with her family by her side following a long illness.
Born Jan. 7, 1922, in Morgantown, she was one of 13 children of the late Charles and Ethel Close Hussing.
Survivors include three children, James Hammack (Rosalie), of Point Marion, Pa., Patricia Carol Wolfe (Donald), of Fairmont, and Carlton “Bud” Hammack (Joyce), of Morgantown; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Galloway (Kermit), of Bruceton Mills; and a son-in-law, James Cale, of Masontown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wilburn Hammack; a daughter, Susan Cale; nine brothers, Carl, Floyd, Everett, Allen, Clyde, Leroy, Lester, Fred and Lloyd Hussing; two sisters, Sylvia Dunn and Madge Friend; and three grandchildren, Sherry Hammack, Bryan Cale and Jason Hammack.
“Georgie,” as she was known by her family and friends, retired as an inspector at the former Morgan Shirt Factory and later volunteered at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
Friends may join the family to honor Georgia’s life and legacy at Tyrone United Methodist Church, 586 Tyrone Road, Morgantown from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 and again from 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Janice Smith. Following the funeral service, she will be laid to rest with her husband at the Pleasant Hills Cemetery.
Guests at the church are required to wear face covering, practice social distancing and limit your stay with the family to 15 minutes or less.
