Allen Eugene VanGilder II, 72, of Morgantown, died at 11:13 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021 at the Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown.
He was born Wednesday, April 28, 1948, in Fairmont, a son of the late Allen E. VanGilder and Bonnie Gower VanGilder.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers Local #1702, the Bobtown Polish Club and the James T. Maxon American Legion Post #992 of Mount Morris, Pa. He enjoyed woodworking and giving things to people. When his health permitted, he loved going to flea markets and auctions. He really loved to fish. Everyone knew him for his horseradish pickles and beef jerky. He worked as a coal miner for over 40 years with Consol Blacksville #2. His wife, Linda Tennant VanGilder, whom he married on Sept. 18, 1989, survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Heather Yusko and husband Tim, of Scenery Hill, Pa., and Holly Miranov and husband Andy, of Pentress; one stepson, Chris Layman and wife Carol, of Fairview; six, grandchildren: Quinlin Vasquez, Carson Squires, Emersyn Miranov, Remington Miranov, Gavin Layman and Garrett Layman; one sister, Beverly Gall, of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters: Patti Perdue and Sharon Linn.
Friends will be received in the Milliken and Throckmorton FH, Inc. Daryl L. Throckmorton Owner/Director,324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478 Mount Morris, PA 15349 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks must be worn in the funeral home at all times and social distancing must be observed. Crowd size will be limited due to the CDC Guidelines. Funeral Services will be Private and held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Fred Eddy officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Fairmont, WV 26554.
