Betty Jo Tennant, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. She peacefully left this world surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Hambleton (Tucker County), the daughter of the late Virgil and Evelyn Newlon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Lee Wilmoth in 1965 and her second husband Clarence Lloyd Tennant Sr. in 2014. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Clarence Lloyd Tennant Jr. and James Tennant. Surviving are her six children: Bonnie (Harold) Knotts, of Ohio, Louise (Dave) Jenness, of South Carolina, Edward “Ed” Wilmoth (Chrystal), Dot McClung, Scott Tennant and Michele Kelly, all of Morgantown. She is survived by one sister, Barbara Beatty, of Elizabeth (Wirt County). She was fondly loved as “Nanny” and is survived by 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She worked as an administrative assistant in the Monongalia County Clerk’s Office for over 30 years. She was an instructor and tax preparer at H&R Block for 30 years. She was known for her exceptional seamstress work. She baked and decorated cakes under the name “Taste of Heaven” for all occasions, including
the inauguration cake for WV Governor Gaston Caperton.
She was an active member of Morgantown First Church of the Nazarene. She was an elder of the church, a deaconess, earned the Distinguished Service Award and held many leadership positions through the local church and the WV North Nazarene District for over 45 years.
The family would like to express their appreciation for exceptional care by the WVU Family Medicine team, and to Morgantown Hospice.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14. Due to the pandemic, guests are asked to adhere to all CDC guidelines while visiting the family.
